Meet Allrounder Grotesk, a decent and modest font and the first member of the multipurpose Allrounder superfamily. The multitalented typeface was developed from 2018 to 2020 by Moritz Kleinsorge. It lays the foundation for Kleinsorge’s Allrounder superfamily, a series of typefaces sharing the same color and horizontal metrics (cap height, small cap height and x-height). The aim of this series is to create a typesetting system whose components match each other perfectly. Look at Allrounder Grotesk as the first part of a design kit: every serif typeface that will follow may be easily combined with Allrounder Grotesk. A workhorse that lives up to its name, Allrounder Grotesk consists of ten weights ranging from a delicate Air to a powerful Black with 900+ glyphs per font. Each weight is accompanied by carefully hand-corrected italics. The sans serif typeface supports more than 200 Latin-based languages, containing the complete “LatinPlus” glyph set developed by underware. It also provides you with plenty of OpenType features and additional goodies: small capitals, ten sets of figures, case-sensitive forms, ligatures, superiors, fractions and arrows. Equipped like this, you’ll be ready for any kind of high-quality typesetting scenario you might encounter. Complementing Allrounder Grotesk, you will soon find Allrounder Serif, a Renaissance Antiqua whose design informed its Grotesk counterpart. While the construction principles of these two font families is completely independent of each other, they still harmonize due to sharing some key characteristics, such as metrics and color. In any kind of design, in any type of medium, working with Allrounder Grotesk is effortless. That’s why Allrounder got its name. Stay tuned for more.

Useful links: TT Runs PDF Type Specimen TT Runs graphic presentation at Behance Looking for a custom version of TT Runs? The TT Runs project started with a fairly simple idea—to create a wide modern sans-serif, which will reflect the sporty style and look good on sportswear. Before proceeding to sketching, we examined the theme of Olympic venues and their identities, and also traced the evolution of “sports” typefaces through different eras and continents. In the end, we came up with the idea of making a typeface that is targeted for application to elastic sports outfits or casual sportswear. This decision has greatly influenced the appearance of the wide and slightly stretched proportions in our typeface, the appearance of the reversed contrast of the shape of some characters relative to the vertical line and their deformation, and the overall plasticity of the letters. TT Runs is very versatile: on the one hand, it is a regular sans-serif that can be used even in a large text array, and on the other hand, it is a bright display typeface with irregular proportions of characters that looks great even in large headings. A striking feature of the typeface is the difference between the top and bottom, the so-called inverse contrast of the shape relative to the vertical line, which is especially noticeable in uppercase characters (for example, in the letters K, C, S, R). In lowercase characters, everything is calmer and more traditional, the reverse contrast of the forms relative to the vertical line is greatly softened and almost invisible. The main visual features of the typeface also include a large vertical height of lowercase characters. Moreover, the bolder the weight of the style, the taller the height of the lowercase character becomes. In addition, when the DemiBold weight is reached, the design of some characters changes, for example, a vertical stroke in bold for characters with a dot at the top bends into an arc. TT Runs consist of 20 styles: 9 upright & 9 obliques, plus 2 variable fonts, each of which includes 739 glyphs. In addition to the broad language coverage in the typeface, you can find a bunch of useful OpenType features. Stylistic alternates, standard and discretionary ligatures, old-style figures, numbers in circles, arrows and much more. Full OpenType list of features: ordn, case, frac, sinf, sups, numr, dnom, onum, tnum, pnum, lnum, dlig, liga, calt, locl, salt, ss01, ss02, ss03, ss04, ss05, ss06, ss07, ss08, ss09, ss10, ccmp, subs.

The Novera family is a sharp geometric sans in ten weights plus matching italics, available in two versions – Modern and Classic. It has a contemporary, approachable and multifunctional yet characteristic design, that comes with an extensive glyphs set of 1000+ glyphs per font, meeting all typographic demands.

The Design

Vertical terminals, circular shapes and angular apexes – Novera truely breathes geometry! But the concept goes beyond the application of rational geometry. The intension was to create a highly legible family suitable for every day usage inspired by the work of Paul Renner, Eric Gill or Jakob Erbar, combining the geometric with the human and the functional with the unconventional. Although Novera is inspired by the past, its appearance is unmistakingly modern.

Modern vs Classic

Novera is available in two versions - Modern and Classic - born from the same source file but with different characters set as default. This creates subtle but effective distinctions such as the double-storey a (Novera Modern) which is optimized for legibility in longer text paragraphs, as opposed to the single-storey a (Novera Classic) which allows a purely geometric appearance.

Another distinguishing feature are the ascenders on Novera Mondern, which extend above the cap height for an elegant presence, compared to the ascenders on Novera Classic, ending at the cap height, for a compact and helvetica-flavored look.

Novera Modern was intended for usage in body copy, whereas Novera Classic was planned for headlines, short paragraphs or logos, but both versions can be used vice versa too, of course.

Alternate Characters

To maintain neutrality and a modern appearance, the standard character set largely dispenses with idiosyncratic forms. This is in contrast to the alternative forms with the gill-like lowercase letters g and t as well as a traditional shape of S and the German ligature t/z, which traces back to old German spellings. Also inspired by German poster designs from the early 20th century are the elongated i-dots and dieresis-dots that can create eye-catchers in headlines or logos. By the way, both versions, Novera Modern and Classic, can be created via stylistic set 1, 17 and 18.

Opentype Features and Symbols

The family comes with many opentype features to support modern typesetting. This includes ligatures, different number sets or alternative shapes for texts set in all caps.

If you like arrows and other shapes, you will love Novera! The family has a built-in extensive symbols-set including 48 different arrows and various geometric shapes or icons.

Weights

With its 40 styles and 1000+ glyphs per font, the Novera family covers all thinkable design scenarios from branding to web, app or editorial usage. It blends in perfectly in text heavy paragraphs with its mid-weights like Light, Regular, Medium or Bold or stands out like a monument in headlines and posters with its extreme weights like Thin, ExtraLight, Black or Ultra.

Skie is a simple gothic sans serif typeface with normal, condensed, and wide families. Its distinguishing characteristics are the small x-height with tall ascenders, and a minimal amount of contrast, while the apertures are semi-open to help in readability. The simple design keeps the appearance fairly neutral and presents a blend of modern and vintage qualities. With 60 fonts in 10 weights and 3 widths making up the complete family, it could be considered a superfamily or workhorse as the widths — normal, condensed, and wide — all harmonize together to give the designer a variety of proportions and layout options to work with. Each width carries a little different tone and feel. Skie has many features: • Arrows • Discretionary ligatures • Case-sensitive punctuation for All Caps • Tabular figures • Fractions, numerators, denominators • Superscript, subscript • Slashed zero With almost 600 glyphs, this font has extensive Latin language support (100+ Latin languages) for Western, Central, and South Eastern European.

Codec Pro is the newest incarnation of the Codec family, developed in 2017 by Francesco Canovaro, Cosimo Lorenzo Pancini and Andrea Tartarelli as a research on the subtleties and the variations on the theme of the geometric sans-serif design. The original typeface has been completely redesigned and expanded to feature a wide range of eleven weights, from the hairline thin to the bulky fat, while the character set has been extended to include not only latin, cyrillic and greek but also arabic, farsi and urdu scripts. A veritable swiss-knife for the designer, Codec Pro also includes a wide range of alternates and stylistic sets that cover all the subfamilies and the moods of the original type system. So while the standard set (Codec Cold) has terminals cut parallel or perpendicular to the baseline, emphasizing geometry for a more constructed look, stylistic set 4 (Codec Warm) uses open diagonal cuts and humanist shapes to give the typeface a gentler, warmer feeling. Set 3 (Codec Cold Logo) comes alive with funky ligatures, while Set 5 (Codec Warm Logo) stretches uppercase characters horizontally for a dynamic, unexpected effect
